News from The House Rabbit Society

A happy update from The House Rabbit Society regarding pet sales and adoption opportunities... Reposted from a member email: "I am very happy to tell you that Petco has finally decided to stop selling rabbits in ALL their stores. In 1994 they made a pledge never to sell rabbits while rabbitswere being euthanized in shelters. In 2002 they broke that promiseand began selling rabbits in many of their stores includingsome in Virginia (although none in Maryland). In 2005, theybegan carrying purpose bred baby rabbits who were spayed/neuteredat 6-8 weeks and they began expanding their sale or rabbits into manystores that did not previous sell rabbits (like Westminster, MD). At long last they are turning back to the right path andholding to their own motto "Think Adoption First." Read then national HRS press release and links tothe history of our negotiations with Petco here:http://www.rabbit.org/hrs-info/petco2008.html See Petco's video press release here:http://www.petconews.com/?utm_source=petcocom&utm_medium=leftnav&utm_campaign=tl&Nav=470 If we had some increased volunteer support, we could try to implement a programto have HRS foster rabbits or rabbits from other local shelters showcased at areaPetco stores to increase adoptions. Please contact me if you live near a Petcostore and would be interested in helping start this program. We can includePetSmart stores in this plan as well." by Kathleen Wilsbach Chapter ManagerHRS MD/DC/NoVA http://www.rabbit.org/ ````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` I love the bunnies big time, please keep a look out for my yearly rabbit fundraiser crafts at http://www.whitepaw.etsy.com Happy Thanksgiving!
